Clinical Study of Nasal Bleeding

Abstract
One hundred twelve case of patients with nasal bleeding were observed at our clinic during the period of 19 months from April 1960 to October 1961.The following results were obtained.
1. The incidence of patients with nasal bleeding was 2.17% among the total of 5158 patients treated at ENT department and 7.63% among 1466 patients with rhinorrhogical problems.
2. As to the etiology of the nasal bleeding. 45 cases. (48.18%) were caused by local lesions 14 cases (12.5%) by systemic derangement and 53 cases (47.12%) by unknown cause.
3. The specific diseases that had caused the nasal bleeding were: malignant tumor 8 cases, nasal polyp 8 cases, trauma 6 cases, nasal diphtheria 6 cases and a plastic anemia 3 cases.
4. As to the age and sex distribution, the patients between 20 to 30 years of age showed most frequent numbers which were 31 cases (27%) and the next ¢¥frequent numbers were found among teenagers(28 cases or 25% of total) and male showed approximately twice the numbers of the female cases.
5. Spontaneous nasal bleeding was observed most frequently in late Spring and early Summer, that is from April to July.
6. The bleeding occurred more often from the left nasal cavity than the right side among the 53 cases of spontaneous bleeding.
7. The 41 cases of spontaneous bleeding started at Locus Kiesselbach and 3 cses at the posterior lower portion of the inferior turbinate.
